HL7 delivers healthcare interoperability standards

Google eyes medical records

Posted 16 July 2007

Google Inc's VP, Adam Bosworth, spoke at the 2007 American Medical Association of Informatics (AMIA) Spring Congress about "Putting Health into the Patient's Hands - Consumerism and Health Care".

His organisation has formed the "Google Health Advisory Council"  and has the stated aim of helping users make more empowered and informed healthcare decisions.

Areas of interest to them are consumer driven storage and searching of records, and standards for privacy, authentication and computable data. The HL7/ASTM CCR and CCD standards were singled out for mention in Bosworth's address.

HL7 is actively tracking developments with Google.

The CCD Continuity of Care Document  is an application of HL7 V3 CDA that builds on the ASTM CCR Continuity of Care Record standard for enabling clinical data to be transported.
