HL7 steps up its engagement with the clinical community, starting with a major gathering of clinical representatives in the US.
HL7 are hosting the “Bridging the Chasm” meeting with the clinical community on April 19-21, 2009 in Washington, DC. More than 100 high-level representatives from over 70 medical specialty societies and other appropriate organizations, including relevant government organizations as well as professionals from outside the U.S. will be attending this event..
"The purpose of the Bridging the Chasm event is to bring together interested and knowledgeable parties to define and identify consensus-based information requirements that will contribute to higher quality, more efficient healthcare. To date, standards and applications in the use of health information technology have largely been driven by the technical community with limited input from the clinical community. As a result, not only do many of the available standards fail to meet the needs of the clinical community, but an increasing number of medical professional societies are independently defining their own standards. These two gaps must be bridged. "
