First European HL7 WGM in the Netherlands!
The first HL7 Working Group Meeting on the European continent was held in the Netherlands - between May 1 and May 6 2005.
It was a full week of very fruitful meetings, mixed with the occasional "stroopwafel break", visits to Amsterdam, and a visit to the Keukenhof flower garden to add some Dutch flavor to the event.
In the past years, HL7 has truly become a world wide standardization effort and in May 2005, this was more obvious than ever with regards to the countries being represented at the meeting. With over 420 participants the meeting attracted a number of attendees which is similar to May meetings held during the past few years. The board of HL7 has yet to formally evaluate the success of the Noordwijkerhout meeting but there seems little doubt that future meetings will be held outside of the US.
There are 3 WGMs annually, the first of which will be held September 11 to 17, in San Diego (USA). The next meeting outside of the US will be held in May 2007, candidate cities include Paris and Rome.
