  • Learn and share experience in healthcare interoperability. In HL7 UK, individuals from healthcare providers and system suppliers work together and freely share information. HL7 UK is run by and for its members.
  • Influence the way in which UK-specific versions are developed. HL7 UK is now the main forum for discussion of interoperability between healthcare IT systems. Members include:
    • NHS central and policy organisations such as the NHS Information Authority, the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT), NHS Information Standards Board (ISB)

    What is HL7?

    HL7 produces the world's most widely used standards for healthcare interoperability. Most of the leading suppliers use and support the development of HL7 standards across six continents.

    The NHS Information Standards Board has endorsed HL7 Version 3 as the strategic direction for clinical messaging, and HL7 is key to the current strategy of the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT).

    What is HL7 UK?

    HL7 UK is the UK affiliate organisation to HL7, and was set up in January 2000. It is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation of software vendors, healthcare providers (such as NHS Trusts), and independent consultants, dedicated to delivering interoperability across UK healthcare.

    HL7 UK is set up as a company limited by guarantee, HL7 UK Ltd (registered in England no 4026136). All members of HL7 UK are legal members of HL7 UK Ltd. See Board pages for details of the Management Board and Directors.
